Week 4
Hello all,
Week 4 has arrived. This week we will do a deeper dive into techniques for plotting associations between variables, including different types of scatterplots and in particular tips and tricks for plotting time series, which hopefully will be useful for your data story. The discussion post just involves finding a plot of association or time series from either your professional field or something you enjoy that you believe is well done, and a very quick explanation for why.
The reading assignment for this week is Chapter 12 and 13 of Fundamentals of Data Visualization, though we are going to save the fancier parts of particularly 12 (the parts on dimensionality reduction) for a future week.
Otherwise, Story 1 is graded. If on any of the figures you received less than 90% of the grade (22.5 on the relevant part) you may redo those figures and I will regrade them. The maximum points you can receive in such a procedure is up to 90%, and it only applies to the figures and not the discussion parts. The deadline for this is next Sunday (if you are going to need more time, I may grant an extension but only if you ask this week, I do not want this to involve people turning in a volume of figures at the end of the semester).
Go to Module 4 to read more about the weekly material.
Thanks,
Sincerely
George
